    What is a geopark? The Geopark proposes to encourage the development of communities inserted in its territory through actions aimed at encouraging geoeducation, the implementation of geotouristic activities and the preservation of geological heritage. “Geoparks are not just stones, they are people and it is crucial that they are involved in the process of creation, affirmation and development of these projects. We want to see as many people walk around the Geopark territory and appreciate the geology of the area.     Scientific Geosites Discover here the geosites that are within the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park Dinosaurs Jangada Roncador The road to the rural community Jangada-Roncador, 90 km away from the municipal headquarters, is made up of unpaved roads. In the region there are snack bars, markets and other tourist support services, but the geosite is not open for visitation. The fossil content collected in the region and described in scientific articles confers a high scientific value to the geosite, with emphasis on the holotype Pycnonemosaurus nevesi, the dinosaur typically from Chapada, whose name means “lizard of the dense forest” in association with the characteristics of the cerrado. Dinosaurs Morro do Cambambe Access to the geosite is carried out by the MT-020, heading from the Água Fria district towards Lago do Manso for 3 km, and then via an unpaved road for 7 km to the farm's headquarters. The route to the geosite is carried out by a trail of approximately 800m. The site is not open for visitation and there are no support structures, with the Água Fria district headquarters being the closest location to a restaurant and support services. The area has high biodiversity with the presence of wild animals. Among the cultural aspects can be associated with the presence of the traditional population of the surroundings, with emphasis on the group of crabs Flor do Cambambe that has the dinosaur as a symbol. Sinkhole Access to this geosite is made from the municipal headquarters by MT-251, followed by MT-450. The geosite is not open to visitors and there are no local support structures or suitable trails. The site has unmodified savannah with abundant fauna and flora and the presence of wild animals such as tapirs, rheas and various species of birds. Marine fossils - Prof.ª Dr. Raquel Quadros Access to the geosite is via the MT-251 highway, following the side road of the Morro do São Jerônimo and Caverna Casa de Pedra trail. The name of the geosite refers to the Panthalassa Ocean that covered the region during the deposition of these rocks and takes the name of the researcher Raquel Quadros who carried out studies on the fossil records of the Devonian in Chapada dos Guimarães. The geosite is not open to tourist visitation, only for scientific studies, the closest support structure is located in the geosite of Cachoeira Véu de Noiva.

    Park Road and Viewpoints Discover here the geosites that are close to MT-251 and the viewpoints. Martinha Waterfall The Cachoeira da Martinha geosite is located on the border with the municipality of Campo Verde, 42km from the municipal headquarters of Chapada dos Guimarães, via MT-251. The place is commonly identified by the welcome sign to Campo Verde, the presence of a crosswalk and the Martinha restaurant and snack bar. The site offers parking service for visitors to the waterfall, has restrooms and meals must be ordered. The waterfall is located on the opposite side of the road, and access is possible via a small trail. Viewpoint of the Geodesic Center 8 km from the city of Chapada dos Guimarães, on the MT-251, there is a short access trail to the attraction, one of the most famous spots in the municipality. The attraction is closed due to the lack of adequate structures for tourism. The lookout is 845 meters high and therefore allows a panoramic view of the landscape. From it, testimonial hills such as the Santo Antônio hill can be seen. Viewpoint Alto do Céu ​ Access is via the MT-251, turning right at Km 8, along a paved road for 7 km, giving way to an unpaved stretch of less than 1 km of dirt road. There is a snack bar, cafeteria and restrooms at the reception, where meals can be ordered. It is possible to reach the viewpoint by car, a fact that makes the place accessible to the elderly, children and people with disabilities. In the historical context there are close records, and an active gold mining project can be seen in the landscape that allows approaching local economic cycles. Viewpoint Morro dos Ventos Morro dos Ventos is located in the urban perimeter of the municipality of Chapada dos Guimarães, which is accessed by the MT-251, close to the exit to the municipality of Campo Verde. On site there is a souvenir shop, a restaurant and a suspended gazebo, whose services are open every day of the week, from 8 am to 6 pm. Atman Mountains Situated about 2 km from the municipal seat, the Serra do Atmã viewpoint is open from 11 am to 4 pm, every day of the week, throughout the year. On site there is a parking lot and a restaurant with international and typical cuisine from the Mato Grosso region. Cliff The Penhasco is located in the urban perimeter of the municipality of Chapada dos Guimarães, with easy access and well signposted. The site has a leisure structure with day use services (every day from 8 am to 6 pm), an area for meetings and business events, accommodation, a restaurant (every day from 11 am to 3 pm) and a lookout point for observing the landscape. The integration between leisure, gastronomic and contemplation tourism are the strong point of this geosite. Dolina Olho D'água The Dolina Olho D'água geosite is located near Rua São Benedito, the road is paved and nearby there are shops, restaurants and hotels. The geosite is not open for visitation and does not have adequate trails. The site has preserved vegetation and is located close to the Santa Edwiges Community Garden, which has been in operation for over 20 years, and to the Maria Luiza De Araújo Gomes Municipal School, which can stimulate local neighborhood involvement with the geosite in question, providing management participatory and environmental education. Salgadeira The Salgadeira Tourist Complex is a traditional tourist spot located on the border of the municipalities of Cuiabá and Chapada dos Guimarães. The geosite is located on the banks of MT-251, 19.2 km from the seat of the municipality of Chapada dos Guimarães. On site there is a restaurant, handicraft shop, snack bar, an interpretation center, ample parking and spaces for a spa and the Salgadeira waterfall. The local tourist structure is mostly accessible to People with Special Needs (PNEs).

    Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park Discover here the geosites that are within the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park. Véu de Noiva Waterfall Geosite Located close to the headquarters of the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, the Cachoeira Véu de Noiva geosite is one of the postcards of the region. the attractive isself guided, open daily, with access from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. A 650-meter sunny trail with slopes leads to a viewpoint overlooking the waterfall and the valley of the Coxipózinho stream. On the access trail, the visitor can observe molds and against molds of brachiopods, tentaculites and other marine animals that inhabited the region during the Devonian. The site has a parking lot and control booth, visitor guidance, restrooms, drinking fountains, a souvenir shop and a restaurant. Trail Difficulty: Light. Route of Waterfalls and Trail of Fossils The Circuit of the Waterfalls of the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park consists of a total trail of 8 km, with ascents and descents, passing through areas of transition between cerrado and gallery forest, following the stream Independência and refreshment at the 5 waterfalls: das Andorinhas, Prainha, Degrau, Pulo and Sete de Setembro, in addition to visiting the Casa de Pedra, a large passage in the rock formed by the water creating natural halls. For visitation, it is necessary to accompany a guide or driver authorized by the national park. Ruiniform features – Hercules Florence The geosite is located on the trail between Casa de Pedra and Morro São Jerônimo, on a long walk route with little shade. The integration between history and geodiversity is the main point of this geosite, which can be approached from the first paths made by the bandeirantes, and later described by explorers such as Hércules Florence, one of the great inventors of photography. Biodiversity is abundant on site and along the access trail. Accompaniment by tour guides or accredited drivers at the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park is mandatory. Stone house Access to the geosite is via trails, via Circuito das Cachoeiras or Morro São Jerônimo. The Casa de Pedra cave is the result of local geomorphological evolution, where due to differences in the characteristics of some rock layers, a system with differentiated erosion was developed. This geosite is registered as an archaeological site at the Instituto Histórico Artístico Nacional (IPHAN), being described as a location with rock inscriptions. The place is open all year round, but bookings must be made by a tour guide or authorized driver by 11:30 am on the day of the tour, with entry allowed between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm and departure by 5:00 pm. Valentine's Waterfalls and Cachoeirinha This geosite is made up of two self-guided attractions in the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, whose visitation is controlled by the visitor's guardhouse, daily from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, leaving at 4:00 pm. A partially sunny trail of 1100 meters leads to Cachoeira dos Namorados, formed by the Piedade stream, and 200m later is located the Cachoeirinha formed by the Coxipózinho stream. There is no tourist structure in the town, not even toilets and drinking fountains. The closest support structure is located at the National Park Headquarters. Due to easy access, excellent observation conditions and carrying capacity, the site is suitable for educational activities, but it is also a consolidated tourist attraction, where spa and contemplation activities are developed. Stone Town Access to the Cidade de Pedra geosite is via the MT-251 and MT-020 highways, towards the district of Água Fria. The integration between geodiversity and biodiversity is visible along the entire route. It is common to see flocks of scarlet macaws flying over the walls, and tapir and jaguar footprints along the way. Burrowing owls, seriemas and emus frequent the plateau savannah. To visit Cidade de Pedra, you need a 4X4 vehicle and accompaniment of an accredited guide or driver. There is no support structure on site, such as toilets and drinking fountains. Like the other attractions located in the National Park, Cidade de Pedra is open all year round. Morro São Jerônimo The Morro São Jerônimo geosite is a guided attraction in the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park. The long walk route is carried out on a trail of about 8 km (16 km round trip) with slopes, slopes and a small climb and the accompaniment of tour guides or accredited drivers is mandatory. The limit of visitors to Morro de São Jerônimo is 36 per day, with up to six visitors per guide. An alternative way of visiting this geosite is the Travessia, a tourist attraction approximately 23 km long divided into two days of walking and an overnight stay in a location called Casa do Morro. The crossing connects some of the most important and popular tourist attractions and trails in the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, such as: the Trail of the Véu-de-Noiva Waterfall, the Waterfall Circuit, the Época Waterfalls (temporary), the Morro São Jerônimo and the Carretão Historical Trail. Rooster crest Crista do Galo is a guided attraction in the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, with access via MT-251, followed by back roads and a short but steep trail, which allows access to the top of the attraction. The place is open every day of the year, requires prior scheduling with a tour guide or accredited conduit, with entry allowed from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and departure by 5:00 pm. The closest tourist structures are located at the headquarters of the national park. This attraction is recognized for allowing the visitor a 360º view of the landscape. In addition to the rich biodiversity, the site is also close to the Claro River, another attraction in the park where visitors can go diving and other activities.
